San Diego or Bust!?

We took our first vacation as a family of 4 to San Diego, California. Though, not sure if we call it a vacation or a...bust. From the beginning...Will was pretty sick so we took him to the dr. the day before we left. He was okay, but needed an inhaler to help with his breathing and he had a nasty cough. Fast forward to the plane ride, everything is going fine until the last 30 min...Will gets restless and the plane starts to descend. This is when Will's ears start to hurt...and Will starts to scream. I don't mean cry, or fuss, or whine. I mean SCREAM. In between screams, he's saying his ears hurt. As many of you know, rationalizing with an almost three year old is nearly impossible, try rationalizing with one who is having ear pain! He wouldn't yawn and he wouldn't sip his water...so we had to wait it out until the plane touched down. All this fun, created the lovely comments from passengers, such as "Poor little bugger." Thanks for the sympathy. Fortunately, I got Will to fall asleep in the stroller while Jeremy got the rental car. When we got in, Will was extremely concerned with why we were in "someone else's car." Then we realized we lost "the red bag." It's my big red bag full of basically everything, nothing too important, but everything all the same. We figured it was left on the rental car bus, called around, found it, and went back to pick it up. At the hotel we use our key to get in to our room and promptly walk in on another family already in the room. By this point, I'm thinking, "you've got to be kidding me, what's next!?"
In the next couple days, things go a little smoother, we managed to do some sight seeing, eat lunches in the sunshine, visit the beach, and spend time with some friends of Jeremy's. Brandy had us over to their house for dinner and Will had a great time playing with their daughter, Alaska and son Kaden. It was actually quite funny b/c Kaden had a horrible cough too, so he and Will would have cough contests. Kaden coughs 2 times, Will coughs 3 times. Kaden coughs hard, Will coughs harder. Cracked me up. The next day we went to Sea World. (Oh and while we were home, Molly kept up the awesome sleeping through the night routine...we hit CA and she decided sleep was over rated and would have NONE of it.) Sea World is perfect for kids Will's age. Its not overwhelming, doesn't have too much stuff. We saw what we wanted to see in half a day. Will had a wonderful time watching the dolphins, whales (no we didn't sit in the "Soak Zone") and sea lions. They had an adorable Sesame Street area that he had fun bouncing around in, playing music and even went on a ride with Daddy, the tea cups. I tried to get pictures, but I just could not capture the enormous smile Will had and the loud laughter that came from that tea cup as he spun 'round and 'round, faster and faster. That night we went to dinner at another friend of Jeremy's in downtown San Diego, Jeff or "Hober" as we call him, made us a yummy bbq dinner and he spoiled Will with a Pluto stuffed animal, so sweet, now Will calls him Uncle Hober, guess a little bribery doesn't hurt. :-)
This is when the "Bust" part comes in. My throat feels scratchy...kind of hard to breathe. Whatever, probably getting Will's cold. Jeremy's gets me a massage at a local spa as a Valentines gift and the next thing I know, I feel like death. :-) The massage brings it all out. I can't breathe, my ears feel like they are exploding and every being of my body hurts. That night my lungs literally closed. It was a scary feeling...Jeremy convinced me to take a puff from Will's inhaler and thank goodness I did, it helped immediately. Jeremy got me heavily medicated on over the counter medicine, I tried to sleep some and the next morning, Valentines, my boys spoiled me, let me sleep in and brought me Jamba Juice. Through my cold medicine stupor, we managed to enjoy the sunshine and eat lunch outside, one of our favorite things to do when we lived in SF. Will played in the water fountain and we headed back to our hotel to start packing to go home. Everything is going well, glad to be going home since I'm not feeling well. But then Molly...she decides not to sleep...I don't mean an hour here, an hour there, I mean she DID NOT sleep that night. Jeremy's immune system must rival that of Superman, b/c he has been up with Molly all night this whole trip and shows no signs of being sick. Thank goodness for my husband. We are up at 5am, me and Molly sick sick sick and headed for the airport. I called my mom and she got me an appt with Molly's dr. and an address for an urgent care clinic. We fly home (I'm screaming b/c MY ears hurt so bad :-) just kidding) and we literally drive straight to the UC clinic and then straight to Molly's dr.'s appt.
We are all doing better, although I have an infection in my lungs and ears, Molly just has a cold and no infections, please say some prayers that it stays that way!
So...will we be taking a family vacation again soon? Probably not...but I'm sure we will brave it again some day! :-) May not have been exactly what we were expecting for our CA vacation, but if there is anywhere I can feel good, being that sick, it's in the sunshine with gorgeous palm trees reaching for the blue skies.

This is a video of Will in the Sesame Street area building a tower of bouncy blocks.
And last, but not least, below is an ADORABLE video of Molly watching Will and then suddenly discovering her Daddy.
